Easter 2012 Part II

Mom: Gwen, let's color some eggs.
Gwen (who LOVES to color with markers and crayons): Okay!
Mom (thinking she might be confused): It's not like coloring on paper.  You dye them.  It's also called dying eggs.
Gwen (getting confused): The egg spirit leaves its body and goes to heaven?
MomOh, no...not die.  It's spelled differently...but you can't spell.  We'll just stick with coloring eggs, I guess, okay?
Mom completely forgot to get anything for Byron for his first Easter!  (Isn't mother's milk enough?)  But Grammie and Poppa Crosby came to the rescue!  They have always sent Gwen the nicest Easter baskets, and this year Byron got his first little Easter bucket too!  (Mom feels a little better because Gwen didn't get anything for her first Easter either as she was just three days old and coming home from the hospital!)  In continuation of Gwen's birthday theme, Gwen got lots of neat butterfly things from Grammie and Poppa, including a yellow wind up butterfly that "flies" across the floor while flapping its wings.  When asked what she named the butterfly, Gwen said, "Actually, I got a name for it but I'm going to keep it in my heart."  It must be a secret name.

After such a positive egg hunting experience yesterday, Gwen was ready for her own personal egg hunt today.  It was funny because she ran around quickly as she searched for eggs, even though there wasn't anyone else trying to get the eggs.  Perhaps next year Byron will give her some competition.  Gwen was happy to find that many of the eggs contained Cinderella or Ariel Squinkies (which are tiny rubber figurines that Gwen loves to pretend with).  Chocolate is Gwen's favorite, so she got a little of that too!
And let's not forget that this is BYRON'S FIRST EASTER!  His two middle teeth on the bottom are ready to poke through any day now, so chewing on everything is a must.  His Easter bucket was no exception!

Byron and Gwen would like to wish you a "Hoppy" Easter!

Easter 2012 Part I

Gwen got the Easter weekend off to a good start with an Easter egg hunt at her friend's house.
While the eggs were being hidden, Gwen decorated a cupcake and a rabbit.  (Gwen's bunny is smiling...so cute!)
Then the fun began!  Gwen is notoriously bad at finding things, even when they are right in front of her, but she seemed to do just fine when it came to eggs.
She looked high...
...and low...

...and everywhere in between!
As she put each egg in her basket, she would give it a good shake to make sure it had something inside.  When it appeared that all the eggs had been found, she quickly took a seat, opened her eggs, and began consuming their contents.  Sweet!

Happy Davvy Day!

Gwen got a special shirt (she calls it her "Davvy shirt") to celebrate Dad's day, and she was pretty serious about her job helping Mom make a card and a scavenger hunt for Dad to enjoy, along with a special dinner on his special day.
Gwen has a great Dad!
-She calls him "Davvy" (and sometimes Bubby...we're not sure why).
-For about the last month, Gwen no longer prefers "Jesus songs" at bedtime, she requests "Davvy songs" like "Daddy's Homecoming", "Happy Family", and "My Dad." The cutest is when Mom sings, at the end of "My Dad", "I'm very glad that he's my...", Gwen will yell "DAVVY!" It defeats the rhyme, but she just doesn't say Dad!
-Dad keeps that yard in tip-top shape which makes for lots of fun outside.
-When she feels whiskers on Dad's face, she reminds him that he needs to shave by always saying "need shave, need shave."
-When Dad leaves the room, Gwen immediately asks, "Where Davvy go?" even if she saw him go down the stairs to the basement or down the hall. When he leaves the house for the day, she may ask where he is over twenty times. Mom eventually gives up answering and tries to change the subject. Gwen misses her Davvy when he's not around!
-Dad has mastered the art of cloth diapers and is now moving on to potty training Gwen. Gwen gets the most "Hurrays!" and treats from Dad when she is successful on the potty.
-Gwen likes to go in the basement and sit with Dad when he's watching something on television. There is a big afghan she likes to sit with and she calls it "Davvy's blanket."
-While Gwen is sometimes very loving towards Daddy, sometimes she won't give him hugs or kisses. This makes Daddy very sad. Gwen usually gives in after a little while of playing hard to get.
-Gwen always asks Dad, but never Mom, if she can "Watch Dora?"
-Dad likes to read with Gwen, but when Gwen gets stuck on reading the same book over and over for days, the book mysteriously disappears. It is usually recovered a few weeks later behind the couch.
-Dad thinks Gwen is the cutest kid ever and loves her very much!

Mom and Gwen think Davvy is the cutest Dad ever, and they love him very much!

Memorial Day 2010

It's been a sunny and beautiful Memorial Day here in New York. After some yard work in the morning, Mom and Gwen headed to a church picnic to visit with friends and have some hamburgers. Gwen loved the playground and could have kept busy there all day!

Enjoy some watermelon and have a nice Memorial Day!

Mother's Day 2010

Gwen makes being a Mom pretty sweet!
Gwen made Mom a special picture in nursery and then she posed cutely for Mom to take her picture...until she almost fell off the counter.

Gwen talked to Grammie Crosby and Grandma Earnshaw and told them that they are special Moms too!

Happy Mother's Day!

Gwen's Easter Basket

With help from both Grandma's, the Easter bunny really packed Gwen's basket as full as could be! Favorite items included a Dora egg, "treats!", Max and Ruby beanie babies and Easter book, a Care Bear toothbrush that plays "You Are My Sunshine", Play-Doh, and bubbles. As Dad put it, Gwen's basket was "quite a haul!"

Wishing you a Happy Easter!

Egg Hunt 2010

Easter morning was warm and sunny, and Gwen had to be convinced that she didn't need a coat to go outside, even in Maine!
Let the egg hunting commence!

In the event Gwen needed any assistance, there were three generations there to support her. Her egg hunt entourage included Dad, Mom, Grandma and Grandpa Earnshaw, and Great-Grandpa and Grandma Earnshaw.

Once Gwen realized there were Cheerios inside the eggs, she became more interested in eating Cheerios than in finding eggs.

Happy Egg Hunting!
